Lee’s Summit Medical Center Adds Spine Surgeon to Medical Staff

Lee’s Summit Medical Center—part of HCA Midwest Health System, Kansas City’s largest healthcare network and private-sector employer—announces the addition of Mauricio A. Valdes, MD, spine surgeon, to its medical staff.
Dr. Valdes completed medical school and his orthopedic medical residency at Brown University in Providence, RI. He then completed an orthopedic trauma fellowship and a spine surgery fellowship at Brown. He is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the North American Spine Society.
“I’m thrilled to join the medical staff at Lee’s Summit Medical Center. I was first so impressed that the nurses and hospital staff took extra time to get to know me before I ever entered the operating room,” says Dr. Valdes. “The staff and I care a lot about every detail of the care we deliver. Together, we want to make sure every patient is pleased and has the best quality outcome.”
Dr. Valdes treats back pain, degenerative disc conditions, diseases of the spine, curvature of the spine, spine deformity, spinal fractures and other conditions of the adult back and spine. He also treats traumatic back and spine injuries.
“The Lee’s Summit area has a need for a specialist in surgical spine care,” Lee’s Summit Medical Center President and Chief Executive Officer Jackie DeSouza says. “We are so thrilled to add Dr. Valdes to our growing complement of physician specialists.”
Dr. Valdes’ has presented at more than a dozen professional conferences. His work in has been published in multiple peer-reviewed journals and he has written textbook chapters and many academic abstracts.
Dr. Valdes speaks English and Spanish. In his free time he enjoys playing the electric organ, running and playing tennis.
