Lee's Summit Medical Center April 24, 2015
Lee’s Summit Medical Center (LSMC)—part of HCA Midwest Health, Kansas City’s leading healthcare provider—hosted the Third Annual Take Your Child to Work Day on Thursday. Children ages 6 to 18 with a parent working at Lee’s Summit Medical Center or parent of a partnering Fire/EMS department and Lee’s Summit Police Department had the opportunity to learn about careers in healthcare. Hospital employees shared information about their profession in career fields such as cardiovascular care, radiology, rehabilitation services, emergency/trauma care, and laboratory and operating room/surgical services. Various stations were set up throughout the hospital where children had the opportunity to receive hands-on healthcare education. The Missouri Highway Patrol and Lee’s Summit Fire and EMS were onsite to demonstrate the features of ambulance and fire trucks and shared information about their career fields.
More than 75 children attended this popular event.
“We are pleased to offer, for the third consecutive year, this enlightening and powerful educational experience for not only our hospital employees’ children, but also the children of our community first responder partners,” says LSMC CEO Matt Sogard, FACHE. “Our staff is excited to offer these kids practical and engaging demonstrations about career fields in a high-tech and high-touch hospital.”
LSMC is a full-service, patient-family centered care hospital, offering comprehensive healthcare through building partnerships with patients and families in order to best meet their needs—from outpatient and preventative services including colonoscopies, mammograms and calcium scoring scans—to state-of-the-art surgical and treatment options for chronic health conditions such as spine and joint pain.
