Lee’s Summit Medical Center, part of HCA Midwest Health System—Kansas City’s largest healthcare network and private-sector employer—has announced Amber Boes, RN, BSN, OCN, as chief nursing officer (CNO). Boes joins the leadership team of the award-winning, acute care facility that is an accredited Chest Pain Center and is certified as a Primary Stroke Center by The Joint Commission. In addition, Lee’s Summit Medical Center has received The Joint Commission’s Top Performers on Key Quality Measures honor in every category for which the hospital provides care and was recently graded an “A” by The Leapfrog Group.

“Amber comes from our sister hospital, Research Medical Center, where she accomplished much in the nursing and quality care arena,” says chief executive officer Jackie DeSouza. “I had the privilege of working with Amber during my time as chief operating officer at Research and know firsthand her energy and passion for nursing and delivering high-quality, evidence-based care to patients. She is an excellent collaborative team leader and helps others to perform at the top of their field.”

Boes, who most recently served as associate chief nursing officer at Research Medical Center, replaces Nancy Melcher, who was recently appointed CNO at Overland Park Regional Medical Center, another HCA Midwest hospital.

“I am very excited to come to Lee’s Summit Medical Center as CNO," says Boes. "It is a wonderful opportunity and my goal is to continue to build on the hospital’s strong foundation of excellence in clinical care and patient outcomes and where staff development is encouraged, promoted and achieved. Lee’s Summit Medical Center is constantly growing and investing in new technology and physicians to better meet the needs of patients and families. To be an integral part of this family is a priceless opportunity."

Boes earned her bachelor of science degree in corporate wellness from Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, Mo., a bachelor of science in nursing and a master’s of science (MS) in nursing from Research College of Nursing/Rockhurst University in Kansas City, Mo. She is a member of the Honor Society of Nursing, the American Organization of Nurse Executives and the Oncology Nursing Society. Boes has served as a nursing leader with HCA since 2006.
