Urogynecologic care

If you struggle with bladder issues, you are not alone. Many women experience urinary incontinence (accidental leakage of urine), and our pelvic medicine specialists are here to help. We care for women with urgency incontinence (when you need a restroom and might not always make it) and stress incontinence (when urine leaks during coughing, sneezing, running, jumping or laughing). We help our patients find relief through pelvic floor therapies, outpatient surgical treatment and pelvic floor reconstruction.

To schedule an appointment with one of our women's care experts or for a physician referral, call (816) 282-5060.

Pelvic floor dysfunction

We offer a specialized therapy program to help patients experiencing pelvic floor dysfunction—where the pelvic muscles weaken and can no longer perform necessary functions. Pelvic floor disorders can be caused by a range of factors, including childbirth, weight gain, aging, surgery and scar tissue.

The pelvic floor supports the bladder, uterus and bowels. When a problem occurs, it can result in:

  • Bowel incontinence
  • Frequent urination
  • Organ prolapse
  • Pain or burning in the abdomen, tailbone or perineal area
  • Pelvic pain
  • Prenatal and postpartum-related issues, such as sciatica and diastasis recti
  • Sexual dysfunction
  • Urinary incontinence

Pelvic floor rehabilitation and treatment

Treatment for pelvic floor conditions involves retraining and/or strengthening the pelvic floor muscles. Through rehabilitation, we help patients regain proper function and optimize their quality of life. Our highly-trained occupational and physical therapists are specially trained to provide pelvic floor rehabilitation.

Pelvic floor rehabilitation may include:

  • Biofeedback
  • Bladder journaling and retraining
  • Diet education
  • Education on using assistive devices, including vaginal dilators
  • Home exercise program for strength conditioning and/or stretching
  • Manual exercises
  • Pelvic floor exercises
  • Relaxation techniques
  • Transverse abdominis stabilization exercises

Some patients may require surgical care for pelvic floor conditions. This option is normally considered when alternative therapies have failed.

Breast imaging and mammograms

Our hospital offers top-quality diagnostic and interventional breast care to ensure you receive the thorough screening and treatment you need to maintain your breast health. We are part of the Sarah Cannon Cancer Institute at HCA Midwest Health cancer network, meaning our team provides research-based, nationally recognized care if breast cancer is detected.

We offer specialized care for women who may be at a higher risk for developing breast cancer, including genetic counseling and risk reduction consultations. Our imaging specialists use digital (3D) mammography, which has proven its ability to increase breast cancer detection and detect cancer at earlier stages. 3D mammograms are especially beneficial to women with dense breast tissue, which can make cancer more difficult to detect on imaging exams.

Patient comfort is a top priority, which is why we use soft screening pads during every screening mammogram. The pads help our patients relax during imaging and feel as comfortable as possible.

Schedule a Mammogram

You can now schedule a screening mammogram online. For assistance scheduling your screening or diganostic mammogram please call 816-282-5555.
